Week Four

 EP Rock Staff:

Thank you again for all you're doing implementing the mitigating procedures to minimize risks to our students and colleagues, as well as all the ways you're positively connecting with students and their families.

Tier II interventions began the week of September 8th. With many of you navigating the new FPC curriculum, as well as on site and virtual teaching, I pushed back the start of guided reading at EP Rock from the third week of school to the fifth week (Monday, September 28th). Remember to have your BAS updated on Friday to assist with your guided reading planning while also allowing us to monitor reading growth during the school year.

Here are some of the adjusted core guarantees within Readers Workshop for 20-21.

  •  Teachers meet with 3 groups per day; students with specific needs receive additional support. All students will meet with the classroom teacher, minimum of 2 times per week. Guided reading should be intensified based on student need. Daily guided reading  (5 days a week) should be in place prior to consideration of Tier II intervention.
As we begin guided reading with students, we want to make sure we are meeting with some more than two times a week for guided reading (preferably daily), if we are concerned they may not respond to core instruction and may need tier II reading instruction layered on in the future. On a typical year, it would definitely be daily guided reading, but I understand with all the COVID related processes that we have in place, this may not be possible.
