Continuing Virtual Learning

Staff,

Welcome back from spring break! Thank you again for all the planning and collaboration you're doing to provide our students with the best learning opportunities under these circumstances. Now that the shelter at home has been extended through at least April 24th, I wanted to provide you with a little more guidance.

This coming week is all about reaching out to families to reconnect utilizing this spreadsheet to document who we have contacted. This is one of the ways we can help students and families to stay connected to EP Rock Elementary.  If you are the first person to contact the family, please ask if they prefer communication by phone or email, and then note that in the drop down menu in column I. We are hoping to connect with each family in our building at least once a week. The bullets below are guidance from Teaching and Learning regarding family two way communication. You'll need to use Skyward to look up the contact information. If you are the first one to call, please fill in the contact information under column J of the spreadsheet.
  • Elementary classroom teachers:  Make at least one phone call (or email if that is preferred by the parents) per family per week.
  • Elementary specialists (music, art, phy. ed., etc.):  Make at least 30 calls per week (or emails if that is preferred by the parents). Feel free to check in with what they are reading at home, and any questions they may have regarding your content area. Try to connect with families that have not yet been called by their classroom teachers for that week.
  • SPED and Tier II certified staff are expected to reach out to each family to provide resources and on going services.
  • Reminder:  limit parent/student access to your personal cell phone number by entering *67 followed by the phone number you are calling.

Remember to blind copy me on your emails pushing out lesson plans to your families. Emphasis should be on your whole group instruction following our curriculum as close as possible. Use your ELA curriculum maps for guidance on mini-lesson and learning target focus. Those of you who have used screencastify or google meets to pre-tape lessons, feel free to continue this process.

The math resource maps in your essential documents have a useful table to show you what EDM 4 online video tutorials are linked to the specific lessons you are teaching. Not every lesson has a coinciding video though, but this is a good place to start. If you want students to access a certain video tutorial for a lesson you'll need to tell them the title of the video and the page number. The page number is connected to their SRB and not a math journal page. Paula Blattner has created this video to support families in accessing these EDM 4 videos, and what information you'd be sharing with them to locate the right video for that day's lesson.
