Collective Commitments Regarding Literacy

We are entering the time of our school year, where fall assessments are complete
(except for K PALS), and we can focus on three of our collective commitments around literacy.

  • Implement the Jan Richardson guided reading lesson plan to fidelity with all reading groups and be ready for fidelity checks after January 1st.

  • Commit to at least two Jan Richardson guided reading coaching cycles with Paula (planning, being observed, reflection and feedback).

  • Use common assessments in ELA and math to drive your PLC conversations and actions.
The DnA reports Amanda McCarthy showed grade level teams last week can assist you with your guided reading groups and strategy/comprehension areas of focus. Also, to support your planning and implementation of the Jan Richardson guided reading,
Paula will be scheduling coaching cycles with teachers who have not yet done their first round of coaching. The coaching cycle will consist of the following touch points.

  1. Lesson planning meeting prior to teaching

       2. Observing Paula teach a guided reading lesson (If you feel this is needed)

       3. Paula observing you teach

        4.  A debriefing meeting with you and Paula

Finally, Mary will be printing out individual fall MAP reports for all classrooms that gave this assessment. Please provide this information to families at conferences, but minimize the time spent on it. When thinking about your conference agenda, consider the "sandwich" format:  start with a positive, then an area of growth and end the conference with another positive about the child.
